B.C. LORIO
Brian C. Lorio uses his camera as a creative outlet to capture his world. While he practiced law then transitioned into the world of academic, Lorio's travels often has him interacting with New Jersey's disenfranchised communities - people who are being left out of urban north Jersey's rapid gentrification boom. It is his hope that by capturing these communities as they learn, work, and play, it will provide images that combat their stereotypical portrayal.
Lorio was born in New Orleans, Louisiana but raised in Davenport, Iowa. After law school, he spent ten years living in Bronx, New York before moving to New Jersey. During college and as he practiced law, Lorio became dedicated to being an advocate for those The American Dream left behind.
Lorio was the featured artist at two exhibitions, a magazine cover, and was awarded an "In Shadow of Liberty" grant to document a Passaic, New Jersey community organization in 2016.
He currently shoots with a Fujifilm XE2s and Nikon FM3a.
Lorio is a graduate of Northwestern University and University of Illinois College of Law. He is frustrated by his love of the Northwestern Wildcats, Atlanta Braves, and New Orleans Saints. (He's still trying to find a soccer team to follow.) He is as passionate about his politics as he is any music based in soul. His one artistic ambition (besides traveling to Bahia) is to write a great country song. However, he's currently taking an improv class just to avoid bring drama to the life of family and friends, This is inspiring him to develop a love for writing sketch comedy.
His current daily travels can be found on Instagram (99.99% exclusively cellphone shots) and on Flickr (which is a combination of film and digital work).
